Painting Beauty One Stroke At A Time

“My peaceful landscape oil paintings are a result of the seeking of the soul to connect with beauty and Creation. I move from observing light as it defines an object into a place that eludes time and space. It can be described as a thin place, where I feel a connection to nature filled with beauty and peace. My paintings are meant to bring that sense of calm to our homes and workspaces. “

Amy’s Journey to Create

Amy has always loved to create. She was fortunate to have some grade school teachers who recognized her early love of drawing and painting and encouraged her parents to help nurture her passion. One of Amy's fondest memories was taking lessons from a local professional artist in her huge studio over old cotton warehouses where she lived in Shreveport, LA.

Amy continued her art lessons through high school and was often recruited to illustrate school and church projects.  She was hesitant to major in Art in college since she had not studied art formally in school. Amy felt she didn't have the background. Her art professor changed her thoughts when she told Amy that hard work was the key to being a successful artist and that you could begin at any age.

Amy  graduated from Rhodes College with a Bachelors degree in Art with Distinction. She began teaching in addition to painting as well as doing fiber art. Raising a family as well as moving often, due to her husband's job, put her painting on hold. Amy found that fiber arts was something she could do in the meantime to keep her creative juices flowing.

Amy concentrated on weaving until she  decided to try painting with dyes directly on a weaving surface. She realized that she missed that magic when the brush is loaded with pigment and it flows on the canvas. Amy returned to painting and began studying at the Denver Art Students League.

Amy's painting  journey continued as she studied painting with many artists she admired. Eventually Amy returned to painting exclusively in oils. Amy's  oil paintings now are in private collections as well as several galleries and she is a Past Co-President and a Master Signature Emeritus member of Women Artists of the West, a signature member of Plein Air Painters of Colorado, and an associate member of American Impressionist Society.

Amy teaches  painting workshops in various Art Centers as well as in her studio in the mountains of CO. She also has served as a juror for national art shows.

Many years later she still remembers the  advice of her art professor and passes  it on to her art students.  Anyone can learn to paint at any stage in their lives.
